Individual Therapy

A Happier, Healthier You

Individual therapy offers a guided opportunity to explore feelings, thoughts, and behaviors specific to you. Whether you are interested in changing something current or want to achieve long term personal goals - individual therapy fosters insight into psychological dynamics. Individual therapy also addresses the relational context where feelings, thoughts and behaviors of others might impact your health and well-being.

When symptoms of anxiety or depression are present counseling offers suggestions for managing these conditions.

ABOUT ME

A Lifetime of Listening and Learning

IMG_20180427_164124.jpg

With a degree in Social Welfare from Southern Illinois University I began work in the residential treatment of children and adolescents. In 1982, I attended the Jane Addams College for a Masters in Social Work specializing in administration and research. My work continued as the director of 3 inner city group homes. This work emphasized the effect of family and environment on individual mental health. In 1989, moving my young family to the suburbs and licensed for private work, I joined a group practice. As a Psychiatric Social Worker I worked with patients of all ages with severe depression and anxiety. Additionally, I specialized in working with adults and children faced with the added challenge of divorce.

In 1995, I opened my own practice and began my doctoral studies at the Adler Institute. I trained in clinical psychodynamic intervention affording methods for in-depth wholistic analysis and treatment. I have since advanced my training in Emotional Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method  for work with couples. Recently I added mindfulness training in working with conditions of anxiety and depression.

For 4 decades I listen to stories, questions, challenges and needs of 100's of clients. Although there are many similarities in our human experience, I remain in awe of individuals and the uniqueness of experiences, ways of addressing challenges, and methods of putting forth needs, hopes and dreams. My therapeutic approach is to listen, explore, understand and educate. The learning, sharing and teaching continues.

I welcome you and your story.
